Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday inaugurated the Noor Mohammad Baloch Pumping Station, restoring its operations after 35 years and improving water supply for more than 300,000 residents in Saddar Town, Lyari Town and surrounding areas.
The facility had remained non operational for decades despite being established in 1991 due to the absence of a permanent electricity connection. Its revival is expected to provide a more reliable water supply to several localities, including Ranchore Line, Kharadar, Mithadar, Jodia Bazaar, Bombay Bazaar, Bhimpura, SIUT, Civil Hospital and multiple union councils in Saddar Town.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Wahab said he ordered the restoration of the pumping station after personally inspecting the site following complaints from local representatives and community members.

He said previous administrations had failed to complete the project despite making repeated promises, adding that ensuring access to clean drinking water remains a top priority for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
The mayor said the KWSC is continuing efforts to strengthen Karachi’s water supply network, rehabilitate aging infrastructure and implement long term solutions to address the city’s water issues.
