Italy will provide employment opportunities to 10,500 Pakistani workers over the next three years under a labor mobility agreement, Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, announced during celebrations marking Italy Day in Islamabad.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, the ambassador reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan in areas including labor mobility, education, diplomacy, and economic engagement.
She said the labor mobility framework would enable thousands of Pakistanis to access legal employment opportunities in Italy over the next three years, further deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Armellin also announced that 3,200 scholarships had been awarded to Pakistani students for the 2025-26 academic year, allowing them to pursue higher education at Italian universities.
The initiative reflects growing educational cooperation between Pakistan and Italy and aims to provide Pakistani students with greater access to international academic and professional opportunities.
Addressing regional developments, the ambassador expressed support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and mediation amid tensions involving the United States and Iran.
She said Italy fully supports Pakistan’s mediation role and described Pakistan as a country known for friendship, generosity, and mutual respect.
The remarks were delivered during a dinner hosted by the Italian Embassy to celebrate the 80th Italy Day. The event was attended by diplomats, government officials, and members of civil society and began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Italy.
Armellin also highlighted efforts to improve consular access and diplomatic services for Pakistani citizens. She noted that Italy hosts the largest Pakistani community within the European Union and said strengthening bilateral relations has remained a key priority during her tenure.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ali Pervaiz Malik said Pakistan and Italy share common objectives and values and have completed 78 years of diplomatic relations.
He expressed optimism that recent Pakistan-European strategic engagements would encourage more Italian companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting event, symbolizing the growing diplomatic, economic, and cultural partnership between Pakistan and Italy.
The announcements regarding employment opportunities and scholarships underscore the expanding cooperation between the two countries and are expected to create new avenues for workforce mobility, education, and bilateral engagement in the coming years.
