The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has launched a crackdown on encroachments on public walkways and ordered food outlets across the capital to clear footpaths immediately. The action follows an inspection of F-10 and F-11 Markaz by MCI Chief Officer and senior officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), who reviewed pedestrian access and outdoor seating arrangements.

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has launched a crackdown on encroachments on public walkways and ordered food outlets across the capital to clear footpaths immediately.

The action follows an inspection of F-10 and F-11 Markaz by MCI Chief Officer and senior officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), who reviewed pedestrian access and outdoor seating arrangements.

Under the new directives, restaurants cannot place outdoor seating, planters, decorative items, or temporary structures on public footpaths. Officials said pedestrian walkways must remain completely clear.

Food outlets will only be allowed to operate outdoor seating in designated public sit-out areas that comply with approved CDA and MCI designs. The authorities have also banned unauthorized structures and perimeter fencing in these areas.

Restaurant owners have been asked to form a representative committee and submit a joint proposal for outdoor seating arrangements. The DMA is also introducing an online portal that will allow restaurant owners to apply for digital outdoor seating licenses through a standardized approval process.
