The Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab on Sunday decided to improve the quality of higher education across the province through the establishment of “Colleges of Eminence” in every tehsil.

According to officials, the initiative aims to align the education system with modern requirements and provide students with better academic facilities and improved learning opportunities.

Sources said that instead of constructing new colleges, the best-performing existing government colleges will be selected, upgraded and designated as Colleges of Eminence.

They added that special focus will be placed on modern infrastructure, quality academic facilities, research and innovation. Faculty standards, student merit and academic performance will be key criteria in the selection process.

Officials further said efforts will be made to strengthen industry linkages to ensure practical exposure for students alongside academic learning.

The Higher Education Department has sought a comprehensive list of proposed institutions from relevant authorities within seven days.
