The federal government has announced public holidays from May 26 to May 28 for Eid ul Azha, meaning the break will cover the first two days of Eid, while the third day of Eid will remain a working day.
According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division on May 20, 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Tuesday, May 26, Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28 as public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.
With Eid ul Azha falling on May 27, the notification effectively gives the public a holiday on Chaand Raat/pre-Eid day and the first two days of Eid, but does not extend the break to the third day of the religious festival.
The decision has been communicated to ministries, divisions, provincial governments, constitutional offices, law enforcement authorities, and other public institutions through a formal circular issued by the Cabinet Division.
The wording of the notification describes all three dates as public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Azha, but based on the expected Eid date, the schedule means government offices will reopen before the third day of Eid is covered under the holiday list.
The announcement is likely to help people finalize travel and sacrificial plans ahead of the holiday period, but it may also draw attention because the notified break does not appear to include the full three-day Eid period.
