The Power Division has ordered electricity distribution companies to clear 1,355 pending solar net metering applications within 10 days after taking serious notice of prolonged delays in new connections.
According to official directives, the pending applications were submitted before February 8 but remain unprocessed despite some cases being delayed for more than six months.
Several distribution companies had been slow in processing net metering requests amid changes to the country’s solar prosumer regulations.
The Power Division directed all distribution companies to ensure installation and energisation of the remaining connections by June 1. Officials were also instructed to address technical issues related to transformer tagging, which had led to incorrect sanctioned load calculations and the rejection of some net metering and billing cases.
The issue was raised after data from the PITC and the 118 consumer complaint portal showed a significant backlog in solar connection approvals. It was also revealed that complaint resolution for power outages was exceeding NEPRA rules.
The Power Division decided to initiate disciplinary action against the worst-performing superintending engineers, executive engineers and sub-divisional officers.
Those responsible for unnecessary delays in net metering installations or complaint resolution may also lose performance-related bonuses.
