Solar system prices have fallen sharply across Karachi’s electronics markets after the federal government chose not to impose new taxes on solar equipment in the 2026-27 budget, reversing a price surge fueled by speculation.

According to market traders, lithium batteries have become cheaper by around Rs. 30,000, inverter prices have dropped by up to Rs. 10,000, and solar panel prices have declined by about Rs. 3,000.

Dealers had raised prices ahead of the federal budget after rumors suggested the government would increase taxes on solar products. Many traders also hoarded solar equipment, expecting to sell it at higher prices after the budget announcement.

However, the government did not introduce any additional taxes on solar equipment. At the same time, ample inventories and continued imports increased supply, while consumer demand slowed. As a result, traders reduced prices to clear their stock.

Currently, 645W, 585W, and 720W solar panels are selling for around Rs. 45 per watt, down from Rs. 50 per watt just a few days ago. Meanwhile, the price of a 5kWh lithium battery has dropped to around Rs. 230,000, while 3kW to 5kW inverters are now available for Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 300,000, depending on the brand and specifications.

Market participants expect prices to remain stable in the near term as supply continues to meet demand and concerns over new taxes have subsided.
