Samsung may stop making its Galaxy Z Flip lineup next year, according to a new claim from a Weibo tipster.
Reports have suggested that Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to take place on July 22. The event may bring three foldable phones, including the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, which is a tentative name for a wider foldable model.
Tipster Momentary Digital claims that Samsung may not launch the Galaxy Z Flip 9 next year. The tipster added that even if the Galaxy Z Flip 8 launches this year, it could be the final model in Samsung’s clamshell foldable series.
According to the tipster, smartphone product planning usually starts at least a year in advance. Because there is no early information about a possible Galaxy Z Flip 9, the future of Samsung’s compact foldable lineup is now in doubt.
The tipster gave three possible reasons behind the claim. First, rising production costs may be making compact foldable phones less attractive for manufacturers.
Second, the current clamshell foldable design may have reached a point where there is limited room for major innovation or design changes. Third, larger foldable phones are said to offer better productivity experiences and higher profit margins.
Momentary Digital also pointed to the market response for Huawei’s Pura X Max. The tipster claimed that its popularity shows growing consumer interest in larger foldable devices.
The tipster also noted that most major smartphone brands have not launched new flagship flip phones so far in 2026. This could point to a wider change in foldable phone strategy across the industry.
If the Galaxy Z Flip 9 is not in development, Samsung’s foldable lineup next year could include the Galaxy Z Fold 9 and Galaxy Z Fold 9 Wide.
However, the report is still based on a tipster claim. Samsung has not confirmed any plan to discontinue the Galaxy Z Flip series, so the information should be treated with caution until more details emerge.
