Former Sindh Assembly member Ghulam Rasool Unar has approached a Karachi court seeking the registration of a case against a woman who he claims used AI-generated photographs while communicating with him online.
Unar filed an application before an Additional District and Sessions Judge South, alleging that he began speaking with the woman through social media and married her without having seen her actual appearance. According to his application, the two married through a video call on February 23, 2026.
His lawyer, Aamir Nawaz Warraich, told the court that whenever Unar asked the woman to show her face, she allegedly sent him images created using artificial intelligence.
The woman also wore a veil during the video-call marriage ceremony, according to the lawyer. Unar claimed that when he later saw her in person, he was surprised because she looked completely different from the photographs she had previously shared.
Unar subsequently distanced himself from the woman but initially kept the marriage intact.
According to the application, the woman later posted allegedly fake images and social media posts claiming that Unar had died. He subsequently divorced her on August 2.
His lawyer further alleged that following the divorce, the woman began demanding tens of millions of rupees and was blackmailing Unar and threatening to kill him. A complaint against her was also filed with the cybercrime authorities.
The court has issued notices to the SP Complaint Cell and SHO Defence and directed the police to submit a report on the matter by August 17.
