Foreign scam networks operating from Pakistan have allegedly been targeting people in different countries, according to findings from an ongoing investigation.

The development comes days after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 284 foreign nationals during a major crackdown on alleged online fraud and other illegal activities.

Sources said the 284 individuals were directed to leave Pakistan within 15 days after completion of legal formalities, subject to valid travel documents and other requirements.

The investigation has now been expanded to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Immigration, passport and visa authorities are also being asked for information about the foreigners’ entry, stay and business activities.

According to sources, an Indonesian national allegedly involved in the network told investigators that his group consisted of nine people, including two Chinese and seven Indonesians. The group allegedly earned around $80,000 monthly by targeting Indonesian women over 40.

The FIA, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and police are examining financial transactions and digital infrastructure linked to the networks.

Meanwhile, the federal government has decided to launch a nationwide operation against illegal call centers, cyber fraud and explicit content.

A special task force operating under FIA headquarters will investigate scams, extortion, blackmail and gambling and submit daily reports to the Interior Ministry. Authorities have also compiled a list of suspected illegal call centers operating in Karachi.
