The Capital Development Authority has suspended all operations against informal settlements in Islamabad following backlash over action linked to the One Constitution project.
The move comes after Shehbaz Sharif intervened to stop an eviction operation at the high-rise building on Constitution Avenue and ordered the formation of a committee to review the issue.
Officials said the decision to halt anti-encroachment drives was taken after strong public criticism, particularly on social media, where authorities were accused of targeting low-income settlements while failing to act against influential property owners.
Areas such as Bari Imam and Saidpur had recently seen operations to reclaim state land, drawing further scrutiny.
Sources indicated that Mohsin Naqvi directed officials to suspend all such actions until the One Constitution issue is resolved.
CDA officials confirmed that operations across the capital have been put on hold, citing concerns over fairness and consistency in enforcement.
Officials acknowledged that the inability to proceed against the high-profile building has weakened the justification for actions against informal settlements.
They also raised concerns about incomplete or missing ownership records for some apartments in the One Constitution building, allegedly linked to influential individuals.
The prime minister has constituted a committee to examine the matter and hear affected residents. The panel is expected to submit its report within a week before a final decision is made.
Until then, authorities say no further operations to reclaim land will take place in Islamabad.
