The Capital Development Authority (CDA) successfully brought under control fires that erupted at multiple locations in the Margalla Hills National Park, including the Golra Range and Bhara Kahu Range, following an extensive overnight firefighting operation.
Authorities confirmed that the blazes were contained late at night, preventing further spread into protected forest areas.
More than 120 personnel from the CDA Environment Wing participated in the firefighting operation. Relevant environment officials, field staff, and assistant commissioners continuously monitored the situation to ensure an effective response.
On the directions of the CDA Chairman and the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, senior officers from the Environment Wing and the ICT Administration remained present in the field to supervise the operation personally.
CDA also extended support to the Rawalpindi Forest Department in efforts to extinguish a separate forest fire in the Tamiir forest area. More than 25 personnel from the CDA Environment Wing took part in the operation, helping bring over 80 percent of the affected forest area under control.
Officials further reported that a fire that broke out on Sunday morning at Londha Dara in the Golra Range was successfully contained. A 48-member team from the Environment Wing participated in the firefighting effort.
Following containment, authorities initiated cooling operations to prevent any possibility of re-ignition.
The administration urged the public to avoid throwing lit cigarette butts, garbage, and glass bottles in the Margalla Hills National Park during the fire season. Citizens were also advised to refrain from barbecues and bonfires in forested areas.
The CDA Chairman called on residents to support efforts to protect the national park and preserve Islamabad’s natural beauty.
Authorities also announced that all fire incidents would be investigated, and strict legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible for causing forest fires.
