The Sindh government distributed 200 free pink electric scooters among female students and working women during a ceremony held in Hyderabad as part of its women mobility initiative.

Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon attended the event as chief guest and handed over the scooters to selected beneficiaries.

Addressing the ceremony, Memon said the initiative was launched to provide female students, working women and businesswomen with safer and more independent transportation facilities.

He said the selection process was carried out without political, ethnic or linguistic discrimination and described the project as part of the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to promote women’s empowerment.

The minister said the Sindh government had also introduced several welfare initiatives for women, including the pink bus service, autism centers, expanded healthcare facilities and the construction of 2.1 million houses with ownership rights for women.

According to Memon, the pink scooter scheme has encouraged thousands of women across Sindh to apply for driving licenses, calling it a positive social development.

He further clarified that the scooters are reserved exclusively for women and cannot be sold for seven years. Helmet use has also been made mandatory for safety reasons.
