Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, inaugurated the first-ever dedicated Ethiopian coffee cafe, Habesha, in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The opening ceremony began with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony attended by members of the Ethiopian community, embassy staff and media representatives.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Oba held an interactive session with journalists and highlighted the growing bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
He said the opening marked Ethiopian coffee’s debut in Pakistan through the first dedicated cafe of its kind in the twin cities.
“From the birthplace of humankind to the home of Arabica coffee, Ethiopia is called the Land of Origins for all the right reasons,” the ambassador remarked.
He added that the cafe was owned by an Ethiopian-Pakistani couple, making the initiative a further reflection of the growing friendship and cultural ties between the two countries.
Naeem Hashmi, the owner of Habesha, said the cafe aimed to bring Pakistan and Ethiopia closer through a shared platform for cultural exchange.
He said the space would allow people from both countries to discover and share their art, culture, music and tourism.
The new cafe is expected to introduce visitors in the twin cities to Ethiopian coffee traditions while also serving as a platform for greater cultural engagement between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
