Xiaomi’s upcoming Mix Fold 5 is expected to arrive with a higher price than its predecessor, as rising component costs and the company’s custom chip development push the foldable into a more premium bracket.

The Mix Fold 4 launched at around $1,290. The Mix Fold 5 is now expected to cost around $1476.

The expected price increase is not random. The first reason is the rise in memory and component costs across Chinese flagship smartphones in 2026.

The second reason is Xiaomi’s use of its own custom silicon. Instead of buying a Qualcomm chipset at market rates, the company is expected to price the Mix Fold 5 around the engineering cost of its Xring O3 chip.

The development cost of the Xring O3 will likely be spread across a device that may ship in limited numbers to premium buyers.

For Chinese consumers, $1476 is becoming a new price level for flagship Android phones. This price bracket was previously linked mostly with Apple’s iPhone.

Whether buyers will follow Xiaomi into this higher price range will be one of the key questions for the second half of 2026.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 is expected to use the company’s Xring O3 chipset. The original Xring O1 debuted in the Xiaomi 15S Pro in 2025 and had a prime core running at 3.89GHz.

The Xring O3 is expected to push beyond 4GHz, reaching 4.05GHz. The bigger change is not only the clock speed. Xiaomi has reportedly moved to a three-cluster CPU layout that removes the traditional big-core cluster.

Instead, the design focuses on prime core performance and efficiency core density. This could have an impact on sustained workloads and battery efficiency under load, though real-world results will depend on actual benchmark testing.

The Xring O3 reportedly does not support global 5G frequency bands. This appears to be a deliberate decision, allowing Xiaomi to optimize the chip for China’s network requirements. It also explains why the Mix Fold 5 is expected to remain a China-only release.

The 2608 date code in the model number points to an August 2026 launch. Xiaomi Day is held annually on August 8, and the company has used the event for major flagship launches in previous years.

The Mix Fold 3 also launched in August 2023, making the timing fit Xiaomi’s previous foldable launch pattern.

An unveiling around Xiaomi Day, followed by August availability, would give the Mix Fold 5 a market window after Samsung’s late-July Galaxy Unpacked foldable lineup arrives and moves into retail.
