Vivo will officially unveil OriginOS 7, the next major update for its smartphones,  at its 2026 Vivo Developer Conference on September 16. The company has now started teasing some of the major design changes coming with the update.

The teasers posted on Weibo show a strong focus on translucent materials, lighting effects, and fluid animations similar to the Liquid Glass design seen on iPhones.

Vivo will also introduce its self-developed Blue River OS 4 at the conference and provide updates on its AI strategy and wider ecosystem.

One of the biggest changes in OriginOS 7 is a new material system Vivo describes as “light and shadow aesthetics.”

UI elements interact with the content underneath them, allowing light and shadow to pass through translucent surfaces and create a more layered appearance.

Vivo is also introducing pixel-level “see-through colour” technology. When text becomes difficult to read against a complex background, the system can adjust specific areas in real time to improve contrast.

The approach closely resembles Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, with Vivo adopting a similar emphasis on transparency, depth and lighting.

OriginOS 7 also introduces a new liquid animation system.

Vivo says it rebuilt its Blue River rendering engine around Virtual GPU 4.0, along with changes to the rendering pipeline and compilation framework.

According to the company, OriginOS 7 renders 14% faster than OriginOS 6.

Animations also respond directly to user interaction. Pressing a button can generate a ripple effect, while dragging across the screen changes lighting and shadows along the path of the gesture.

Vivo is also redesigning the lock screen.

A new Liquid Theme reacts to the movement of the phone. Tilting or shaking the device causes elements to move with a jelly-like effect while producing water-ripple animations.

Vivo compares the interaction to using a fidget toy.

Another option, called the Flash Card Theme, lets users turn photos, characters, or locations into cards displayed on the lock screen. Users can also adjust clock fonts to better match each design.

OriginOS 7 adds a new system-wide sticker library.

Users can place stickers on the desktop, inside albums, on wallpapers, and on the Always-on Display.

The software can also create stickers directly from photos. It automatically identifies the main subject and removes the surrounding background, allowing pets, people, characters or other objects to become reusable stickers.

Vivo will introduce an upgrade to its Blue Heart Intelligence strategy, which will use large models and Harness technology to develop more personalized AI experiences.

The company will also officially introduce Blue River OS 4 and discuss its latest work around AgentOS.

Security, human-centric technology, and ecosystem development will also be part of the keynote.

OriginOS 7 will be officially unveiled in September, with Vivo also expected to introduce it alongside the Vivo X500 series in China.

The company has not yet provided a complete list of supported devices or a detailed rollout schedule.

For India, OriginOS 7 is expected to arrive sometime next month or possibly in October, although Vivo has not confirmed an exact date.

More details about device compatibility and the rollout are expected around the official September 16 announcement.
