An Xbox player has pre-ordered the $100 Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition without paying any money after redeeming 98,000 Microsoft Rewards points.

The player, using the name HugoWheynow, converted the accumulated points into a $100 Xbox gift card and used the balance to cover the game’s price.

“Thank you, Rockstar, for all the delays, which allowed me to have all these extra months to save my Microsoft Points,” the player wrote in an Xbox review.

Microsoft Rewards allows users to collect points by completing daily activities, searching through Bing, and earning eligible Xbox gaming rewards.

Collecting 98,000 points can take around eight months of regular activity, although the actual period depends on the available tasks and earning limits.

Once enough points have been collected, users can redeem them for an Xbox gift card and use the balance to buy eligible games from the Microsoft Store.

The player, therefore, did not receive GTA 6 through a giveaway. The purchase was covered entirely by rewards accumulated over time.

Rockstar Games opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI on June 25. The Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and includes the main game along with its Ultimate Edition content. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

The additional development time gave players enough time to continue collecting Microsoft Rewards points before pre-orders opened.
