The United Arab Emirates has made police character certificates mandatory for Pakistani applicants seeking work visas.

According to the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment in Islamabad, the new requirement applies to all Pakistani job seekers applying for UAE employment visas.

The policy came into effect on July 20.

Officials said applicants must obtain a good conduct certificate from the relevant authority in Pakistan and have it attested by the UAE embassy in Pakistan before submitting their visa application.

The move adds a new condition for thousands of Pakistanis who travel to the UAE for employment each year.
