Valve has announced the launch details for the Steam Controller after first introducing the device in November without a price or release date. The company said the controller will go on sale on May 4 through the Steam Store for $99.
The Steam Controller comes with magnetic thumbsticks and a full set of buttons and controls designed to support a user’s complete Steam game library. It stands out for its trackpads, which are similar to those found on the Steam Deck. Valve has also included four haptic motors, which the company says are meant to deliver high-definition rumble feedback during gameplay.
The controller is equipped with an 8.39Wh battery. According to Valve, it can provide more than 35 hours of use on a single charge.
Inside the box, buyers will receive the Steam Controller Puck. This accessory enables plug-and-play low-latency wireless connectivity and also supports magnetic charging.
Users are not limited to the Puck, however. The controller can also connect through Bluetooth or USB, giving players multiple connection options across devices.
Valve said the Steam Controller works with the Steam Machine as well as Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. It is also compatible with tablets and smartphones running Steam or the Steam Link app.
The controller also supports the Steam Deck, whether the device is docked or being used as a handheld.
Valve added that the controller can be tracked by the cameras of the Steam Frame. This allows users to play non-VR games on a virtual screen.
