Police have launched a search and strike operation in the upper parts of Kaghan Valley to ensure safe travel for tourists and passengers after traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan resumed.
Balakot DSP Sadaqat Nisar said the operation was started after the reopening of the Mansehra Naran Jalkhad Road, which had remained closed for more than six months due to winter snowfall and glaciers, Dawn reported.
He said police are taking strict security measures in the mountainous areas of Babusar Top and Chattidas, located near the boundary between KP and GB.
According to Nisar, the operation aims to protect tourists and travelers using the Kaghan Valley route between the two regions.
The Mansehra Naran Jalkhad Road had been closed in November after the first snowfall of the winter season. It has now been cleared of snow and glaciers.
Police posts along the route are also being reopened to improve security and provide support to visitors.
Meanwhile, the district administration inspected safety arrangements for rafting activities on the Kunhar River in Naran ahead of Eidul Azha.
Balakot Assistant Commissioner Hasrat Khan said teams visited Naran and checked rafts and safety equipment provided to rafting operators.
He said tourist safety is a priority. Therefore, companies offering rafting services on the Kunhar River must follow the safety measures and protocols set by the government for water sports.
The reopening of the route is expected to bring a fresh flow of tourists to Kaghan Valley during the Eid holidays and summer travel season.
