CAPCOM’s highly popular Resident Evil Requiem is about to get a free mini-game update soon. This new mini-game is said to be a new version of Mercenaries , though there is no official confirmation as of yet.

The game has sold seven million units in less than two months, making it the fastest-selling title in the franchise.

The strong performance also helped CAPCOM raise its fiscal year 2026 net profit forecast from $319.9 million to $341.8 million, an increase of 6.9%.

In an interview with Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer, game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa suggested the first post-launch content update could arrive soon.

Kumazawa said players finishing the main story during Japan’s Golden Week would be timed well for the mini-game release.

Golden Week runs from April 29 to May 6, suggesting the update could arrive within a week.  That would align with CAPCOM’s earlier statement that the new mode would be released in May.

Nakanishi said the mini-game is based on battles from the main game and is intended for players who want more action after completing the story. He added that players should “sharpen your tomahawk and wait.” Kumazawa said the content only unlocks after finishing the main campaign.

The interview also shared gameplay data from Resident Evil Requiem . During Leon’s chapters, around 90% of players selected third-person mode.

During Grace’s chapters, the split was closer, with about 60% choosing first-person mode and 40% using third-person mode.

The developers said Japanese and Asian players preferred third-person gameplay, while PC players leaned more toward first-person mode.

Nakanishi also revealed that Requiem had a planned Chapter 2 that was later removed during development.

He said the team focused on cutting content where necessary to improve pacing and accessibility, even when difficult decisions were required. The game’s original concept reportedly centered only on Leon and Raccoon City .

Grace’s role was later expanded significantly, leading to her becoming a full co-protagonist.
