The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to develop markets and commercial plazas on vacant plots and open spaces located within its housing schemes in Rawalpindi.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Rawalpindi Abdul Aamer Khattak and attended by senior RDA officials, including Additional Director General Masood Ahmad and Chief Engineer Anwar Baran.

During the meeting, the Estate Management Directorate briefed participants on a new asset management initiative covering vacant properties and open spaces in 13 housing schemes owned by the RDA.

Officials said the initiative aims to protect RDA land from illegal encroachments and land grabbing while also creating sustainable revenue sources through construction and development projects.

The authority also plans to ensure better utilization of unused land within existing housing schemes through commercial development.

Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak directed officials to take all possible measures to convert unused land into productive and revenue-generating assets.

He instructed the RDA to extend full cooperation to the Estate Management Directorate for the implementation of the initiative and directed authorities to prepare project designs for the proposed developments on a priority basis.
