Rain could affect the PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Sunday, May 3, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain, dust storms and thunderstorms in parts of Punjab and rest of the country from May 2 to May 4.
Peshawar Zalmi have already qualified for the final. They will face the winner of tonight’s match between Islamabad United and Hyderabad Kingsmen.
However, the weather forecast has added uncertainty before the title clash. The Met Office has said a fresh westerly wave is likely to enter the northwestern parts of the country on the evening of May 2. The system is expected to affect upper and central parts of Pakistan until May 4.
According to the advisory, dust storms, thunderstorms and rain are expected in several areas of Punjab and Islamabad from the evening of May 2 to the night of May 4. Lahore is also included in the list of areas likely to receive rain during this period.
The forecast means the PSL 11 final could face delays, interruptions or a reduced overs contest if rain hits Lahore on match day. Wet outfield conditions could also delay the toss or start of play, even if rain stops before the match.
The weather system may also bring isolated hailstorms in some areas. Strong winds and lightning could create further challenges for match officials, ground staff and spectators.
The final is expected to draw a large crowd at Gaddafi Stadium. Therefore, fans planning to attend the match should keep track of weather updates before leaving for the venue.
The PMD has also advised travelers and the public to remain cautious during the forecast period. It said windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards and solar panels.
For now, Peshawar Zalmi will wait for their final opponent as Islamabad United and Hyderabad Kingsmen meet tonight. But the biggest concern before Sunday’s final may not be the opposition. It may be the Lahore weather.
