A major anti-encroachment operation has been launched at Government Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town, leading to the recovery of hospital land after 45 years of illegal encroachment.
During the operation, three hotels and several medical stores that had been illegally established on the government hospital’s land were bulldozed.
The land was recovered through the efforts of the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr. Rashid Khanzada.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Khanzada said the hotels and medical stores had been operating illegally. He added that the medical stores did not have valid business licenses.
According to the health department, private medical stores are not allowed to operate on government hospital premises.
Following the anti-encroachment drive, Dr. Khanzada announced that a dedicated token counter will be established at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) to facilitate elderly and disabled patients.
He also decided to set up a pharmacy counter to provide free medicines to patients in the emergency department.
Dr. Khanzada said the recovered hospital land will now be used entirely for public facilitation and improving patient care.
