Punjab Police has developed a plan to introduce a new system for detecting fake number plates, e-challan defaulters, and wanted individuals across the province.

According to police officials, the system will use specially equipped vehicles fitted with 360-degree cameras to monitor roads and public places while in motion.

Officials said the cameras will identify defaulter vehicles and wanted individuals in real time as the vehicles move through different areas. Police authorities stated that the system will be integrated with the Safe Cities network to generate instant alerts for enforcement teams.

According to officials, the cameras will capture and update data of vehicles and individuals within a range of up to 100 meters, while also identifying overloaded vehicles. Police officials said electric vehicles will be used for the system to reduce fuel consumption and operational costs.

Authorities confirmed that the first vehicle is expected to be ready next week and will be presented to the Punjab chief minister for approval. Officials said the project is being completed under the supervision of Additional Inspector General Logistics and Procurement Fawaduddin Qureshi.

According to police authorities, the system will initially be deployed on selected roads in Lahore after approval. Officials added that one to three vehicles will be allocated to each district across Punjab for monitoring purposes.

Police authorities said the cost of each vehicle, including equipment, is estimated at around Rs. 1 crore and 10 lakh. Officials stated that the system is expected to improve traffic management and help in identifying offenders more effectively.
