The Punjab government has decided in principle to hold Basant across the province next year and is preparing the legal and administrative framework needed to organize the festival, according to sources.
Under the plan, the government will allow kite and string production from October this year. The government also plans to introduce measures to keep kite and string prices under control and ensure their availability at reasonable rates during the festival.
Sources said the Punjab government will introduce legislation covering kite flying and the organization of Basant. The proposed legal framework will include safety measures, kite flying rules and other conditions for the festival.
The government has proposed holding Basant across Punjab during the last week of January next year. Authorities are expected to announce the designated locations and rules for kite flying soon.
Punjab has already developed regulations governing kite manufacturing, sales and kite flying. The government aims to use these regulations to protect citizens during the festival.
Sources said the government will assign responsibilities to relevant administrative departments to ensure a safe and organized event. Authorities will also establish monitoring mechanisms and take legal action against violations of the rules.
