The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has banned the issuance of handwritten or informal receipts at restaurants, marriage halls and other businesses across the province to prevent tax evasion and manipulation of sales records. Under a notification issued by the PRA, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls must implement the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) and issue receipts through the system.

Businesses that fail to issue EIMS-generated receipts can face fines ranging from Rs. 400,000 to Rs. 1 million. Those repeatedly violating the rules may also be sealed for up to one month.

The authority has also warned of strict legal action in cases involving interference with government officials, tampering with sales records or failure to provide required records.

The PRA has prohibited businesses from issuing customers kitchen order slips, unpaid bills or similar documents as substitutes for proper tax receipts.

Businesses will instead be required to provide receipts containing the business name, address, receipt number and PRA QR code.

The new measures have been introduced to improve sales monitoring and ensure that businesses accurately report transactions for taxation purposes.

PRA officials said enforcement officers will take immediate action against businesses found violating the requirements.

The notification was issued on the instructions of PRA Chairman Muazam Iqbal Sapra, with all commissioners directed to implement the new rules across Punjab.
