Faisalabad has established its first public sector e-swapping battery charging station, giving electric bike users the facility to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones within a minute.
Divisional Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh inaugurated the pilot project under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s environment-friendly initiatives to promote modern, affordable and convenient transport.
He said two battery swapping cabinet units had initially been installed to provide charging support for 24 batteries, while the target is to install 50 cabinets across Faisalabad by December 2026.
Dr Sheikh said the project aims to reduce air pollution and encourage the use of eco-friendly transport in the city. He added that the E-Swap-FUTWS service will allow users to access electric bikes, batteries and swapping stations through a subscription-based model.
He said users can register through the E-Swap app, provide basic identity and address details, and complete payment online through EasyPaisa, JazzCash or banking apps after verification.
Officials said the initiative will make electric transport more reliable and accessible while supporting sustainable urban mobility. During the ceremony, a live demonstration showed a depleted battery being replaced with a fully charged one through the swapping system.
Electric bike riders welcomed the initiative and thanked the Punjab chief minister and the divisional commissioner for introducing the facility in the city.
