The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has formally granted membership to Punjab’s Forest and Wildlife Department, making it part of a global platform dedicated to environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources.

According to the department, IUCN recognized its efforts in protecting the environment and restoring natural resources before approving its membership.

Officials said the membership will enable the Punjab Forest and Wildlife Department to collaborate with governments, environmental organizations, and experts worldwide.

The department will now be able to participate in policy development, research activities, and international initiatives related to environmental protection, forests, and wildlife conservation.

They added that the IUCN platform will provide access to global scientific research, environmental projects, and modern policy measures. The membership is also expected to strengthen international cooperation for the protection of natural heritage.

IUCN currently operates in more than 160 countries and has over 1,400 governments and organizations among its members. The organization also holds observer status at the United Nations in recognition of its work for the protection and restoration of the environment and natural resources.
