The Punjab government has approved the establishment of a dedicated Internal Affairs Wing within the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) to monitor the conduct and performance of officers across the province.

The decision was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz following complaints related to corruption, misuse of authority, and administrative irregularities within the authority.

According to officials, the Internal Affairs Wing will function as PERA’s intelligence and vigilance unit and will be headquartered in Lahore. The unit is expected to become operational within two months, with around 200 officers to be recruited on a contractual basis for deployment in all 36 districts of Punjab.

Senior officials said the provincial government had decided to induct experienced personnel with backgrounds in Military Intelligence, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau, Special Branch, Customs Intelligence, and other security and law enforcement institutions to strengthen PERA’s internal accountability system.

Sources said nearly 4,000 Punjab Police personnel had initially been posted to PERA on deputation, while around 400 officials have already been returned to the police department over allegations of corruption and misconduct.

The government is also planning to gradually replace deputation-based staffing with PERA’s own permanent enforcement workforce.
