PhD professors working in public colleges across Punjab have expressed concern over the non-implementation of direct recruitment quotas for senior teaching positions, saying the prolonged delay has severely affected their career growth. Teachers said many lecturers and associate professors completed PhD and post-doctoral qualifications expecting promotion opportunities under the existing service rules, but continued delays have left them stuck in the same grades for years.

Senior professors warned that many teachers could retire without reaching higher positions despite decades of teaching and research experience. They also said the situation was discouraging younger faculty members from pursuing advanced research degrees.

Education circles have urged the Punjab government to introduce relief measures for affected professors, including promotion opportunities for teachers who have completed long periods of post-PhD service without advancement.

Punjab Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat said appointments and recruitment in the education sector would continue to be carried out on merit and with transparency.
