The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), acting on the directions of Director General Syed Musa Raza, uncovered a unit involved in the illegal production of oil from animal fat and offal near Sabzi Mandi Rohi Nullah.
The operation was led by Additional Director Lahore Khawaja Umair. During the raid, officials discarded 33,030 kilograms of animal fat and offal along with 5,000 liters of oil prepared from fat.
Authorities also registered an FIR and arrested two suspects over food forgery and serious violations of food safety laws.
According to the PFA, food safety teams found that the accused were secretly extracting oil from animal fat and offal in highly unhygienic conditions. Director General Syed Musa Raza said strict action was taken because the operators did not have mandatory oil records or a valid food license.
He stated that offal and animal fat were being stored in dirty blue drums, while contaminated oil was extracted in an open processing area. He also said the legally required methylene blue dye had not been added to the extracted oil.
Syed Musa Raza explained that oil produced from animal waste can only be used for biodiesel production and is not fit for human consumption. He said businesses endangering public health would be completely uprooted.
He further stated that food adulteration would not be tolerated under any circumstances and that those involved in food forgery would not escape the law in Punjab.
