The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, delivered one of the strongest financial performances in cricket history, generating record revenue and profits for the sport’s governing body.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) generated $638.42 million (around Rs. 17,700 crore) in revenue from the 15-match Champions Trophy 2025, with profits exceeding $586 million (around Rs. 16,300 crore).
The figures mark a sharp jump from the previous Champions Trophy, held in England in 2017, which generated around $187 million. The 2025 edition therefore, produced more than three times the revenue of the last tournament.
The financial success of the event has drawn attention to Pakistan’s growing value as a host for major ICC competitions.
Despite Pakistan’s domestic cricket market contributing a relatively small share to global cricket revenues, the country remains commercially important because ICC events involving Pakistan attract strong international interest.
The tournament’s strong returns also come at a time when the ICC is operating within a $3.2 billion revenue cycle from 2024 to 2027, making profitable events increasingly important for future hosting decisions.
The Champions Trophy’s performance stands out even more when compared with other recent ICC tournaments.
The 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup in India generated $31.32 million in revenue but posted a $31.38 million loss after hosting costs crossed $62.71 million.
The 2025 World Test Championship Final hosted in England also earned $35.4 million in revenue and recorded $13.65 million in profit from a single match.
The success of the Champions Trophy 2025 has strengthened the argument that Pakistan can deliver highly profitable global cricket events. With the tournament producing record-breaking returns, the ICC may face growing calls to consider Pakistan for more major hosting opportunities in the future.
