May 2026 could prove to be a holiday-heavy month for Pakistanis, with public holidays, weekends, Youm-e-Takbir, and expected Eid ul Adha breaks likely to push the total number of days off to 14 or 15.
If an additional holiday is announced, the count could go even higher.
The month will begin with an immediate three-day break as Labor Day falls on Friday, 1 May. When added to the weekend on 2 and 3 May, both public and private sector employees could get three consecutive holidays at the start of the month.
More days off are expected later in the month due to Eid ul Adha, although the final dates will depend on the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.
If the moon is sighted on 17 May, Eid ul Adha is expected to fall between 27 and 29 May. In that case, when combined with the weekend, people could get a five-day break.
If the moon is not sighted on 17 May and Ziqad completes 30 days, Eid would likely be observed from 28 to 30 May. In that scenario, the holiday on Sunday, 31 May, would also be added to the break.
There is also a chance the holiday stretch could become even longer if the government announces an additional day off on Monday, 25 May. If that happens, it could link with the preceding weekend of 23 and 24 May and create an extended break.
According to Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee is scheduled to meet on 17 May to sight the Zilhaj moon, after which the final Eid dates will be announced.
