Pakistan Railways will resume the Shalimar Express from August 14, restoring a rail link between Lahore and Karachi via Raiwind and Sahiwal.
According to officials, the revised route has been introduced after floodwaters damaged railway bridges at Qila Sattar Shah and Masan Kallar, forcing the Faisalabad route to remain closed.
The train will now make five additional stops at Kot Lakhpat, Raiwind, Okara, Sahiwal and Sadiqabad.
Pakistan Railways has also announced a 14% discount on fares across all classes, making the service more affordable for passengers travelling between Lahore, central Punjab and Karachi.
The Shalimar Express had previously operated via Sahiwal after being restored on the route in 2023. However, the service was later shifted back to the Faisalabad route following low passenger numbers and financial losses.
The latest route change will allow Pakistan Railways to restore the Shalimar Express while the Faisalabad route remains affected by the damaged railway bridges.
