The newly expanded immigration area at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore has been opened for passengers after authorities completed the work in just 15 days to reduce waiting times and manage increased passenger traffic.
Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi visited the airport on Wednesday and reviewed the newly operational immigration area. He inspected passenger arrangements, observed the immigration process and spoke with travelers about their experience and the facilities available to them.
The expansion has increased the number of immigration lines from seven to 20, significantly improving passenger processing capacity and helping reduce congestion during busy periods.
Naqvi said authorities prioritized providing immediate relief to passengers during the peak travel rush instead of waiting for permanent construction work to finish. He credited the Federal Secretary Defence, Civil Aviation authorities, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other institutions for completing the work through continuous efforts.
The FIA installed additional immigration counters to make the expanded area operational while permanent counters are being prepared. Naqvi said the authorities would install the new permanent counters soon and complete the remaining construction work at the earliest.
