China has expanded its 240-hour visa-free transit program to citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam, increasing the total number of eligible countries to 57.

Travelers from the two countries can now enter China through designated entry points without obtaining a visa for transit purposes.

To qualify, travelers must hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region.

The program allows eligible foreign travelers to stay in China for up to 240 hours, or 10 days, while remaining within the areas permitted under the visa-free transit policy.

China has gradually expanded the program over the past two years. Indonesian nationals were added in September 2025, taking the number of eligible countries to 55 at the time.

The policy was significantly relaxed in December 2024 when China’s National Immigration Administration increased the maximum visa-free transit period from 72 or 144 hours to 240 hours.

Authorities also added 21 ports of entry and exit to the areas available to eligible transit passengers.

Under the expanded framework, eligible travelers heading to a third country or region can enter China without a visa through designated open ports and remain in approved areas during the transit period.

Earlier details of the policy stated that travelers could use 60 open ports across 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.
