Pakistan will launch a week-long anti-polio campaign from Monday in 79 high-risk districts, aiming to vaccinate more than 19 million children against the crippling virus.
The nationwide drive will continue until May 24, with over 160,000 polio workers taking part to ensure the campaign’s successful implementation.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Pakistan and Afghanistan will conduct simultaneous vaccination campaigns as part of coordinated regional efforts to eradicate polio.
In Punjab, authorities will vaccinate around 6.19 million children in 10 selected districts. Sindh will administer polio drops to approximately 5.79 million children in 20 districts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, around 4.61 million children will receive vaccinations in 23 districts, while Balochistan plans to vaccinate nearly 1.99 million children in 25 districts.
Officials said around 450,000 children in Islamabad will also receive polio drops during the campaign.
The NEOC urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that children receive polio drops to protect them from the virus.
