The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has started work on developing a National Open Data Ecosystem (NODE) as part of efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy.
According to officials, the planned system is intended to make government data more accessible and usable for citizens, businesses, and researchers. By organizing and sharing public data in a structured format, the project aims to support transparency, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making across different sectors.
The ministry has invited proposals from interested parties for the development and implementation of the system. The process is open to both local and international participants, with the goal of bringing in a wide range of expertise and global best practices.
A pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for mid-May, while proposal submissions are expected by mid-June. Officials said the selection process will consider both quality and cost, with greater emphasis placed on technical capability to ensure effective delivery.
The NODE initiative is considered an important part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation strategy. By improving access to public data, authorities expect it to drive innovation, enhance public services, and create new opportunities in the technology and research sectors.
The initiative is being carried out under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project and is supported financially by the World Bank.
