The trend of profiteering and overpricing of essential commodities continues unabated in the city, while the district administration appears unable to enforce official price lists in the open market.

Residents report that food items are being sold at significantly higher rates than government-notified prices, causing widespread concern among consumers.

According to citizens, milk is not available at the official rate of Rs170 per liter and is instead being sold between Rs220 and Rs250 per liter in different areas of the city.

Similarly, yogurt prices have also surged, with retail rates reaching Rs260 to Rs270 per kilogram, well above the official price list.

Meat prices have also witnessed a sharp increase. Consumers say quality mutton is being sold for as high as Rs3,500 per kilogram, adding further pressure on household budgets.

Residents have asked the district administration to strictly enforce official price controls and take firm action against those who illegally overprice goods to help the public.
