Microsoft is making it easier for Windows 11 users to stop repeated OneDrive backup reminders.
A new full-screen OneDrive prompt now includes an “Opt out of backup” option, allowing users to permanently dismiss the reminder instead of being asked again a few days later.
Earlier OneDrive pop-ups mainly offered a “Remind in 3 days” option.
This meant users who did not want to back up their files with OneDrive could keep seeing the same notification repeatedly.
Windows Latest spotted the new option on a PC running a stable version of Windows 11 24H2.
Selecting “Opt out of backup” should stop the recurring reminder.
Microsoft still makes one final attempt to encourage OneDrive use. After choosing to opt out, users are shown another screen with options including “Skip for now” and “Backup now.”
Once that is dismissed, users should no longer receive the same backup prompt.
Windows 11 does not require OneDrive for file storage, so users can continue saving files locally or use other cloud services such as Google Drive.
The change comes as Microsoft continues working on Windows 11 improvements, including optimizations aimed at PCs with 8GB of RAM.
The company is also adding other features, including the ability for Phone Link users to remotely shut down or restart their Windows PCs.
For users who do not want OneDrive backup, however, the new permanent opt-out option may be one of the more welcome changes.
