Dera Ismail Khan Airport has been fully rehabilitated and made operational again after remaining neglected for years, marking another step in efforts to restore non-functional airports across the country.
The rehabilitation work was carried out through coordination between the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and the Ministry of Defense, with officials describing it as part of a wider push to revive dysfunctional aviation facilities nationwide.

According to the available details, the restoration covered key airside facilities along with the installation of night landing capability to bring the airport in line with modern operational requirements.
The project also included upgrades to lighting and other airside infrastructure aimed at supporting future commercial jet operations. Protective barriers were additionally constructed to shield the airport from floodwaters coming from nearby hill streams.
A major milestone in the process was the first proving sortie conducted by Army Aviation, which was meant to confirm the runway’s readiness and signal that the airport is now fit for full operations.
The development is expected to improve air connectivity in the region and support future flight operations once commercial services are formally planned and launched.
