Lahore Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on helmet violations, declaring several major city roads as no-go zones for motorcyclists without helmets.
The move follows the department’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-based survey, which found that 97.11% of motorcyclists on Lahore’s model roads were wearing helmets.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the survey was conducted through AI technology integrated with Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) cameras at 17 major intersections across the city.
During the specified hours, 264,112 motorcycles passed through these locations, of which 256,473 riders were wearing helmets, while 7,639 were found without protective headgear.
He said The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Cantt have been declared no-go zones for riders without helmets. The zero-tolerance policy will also be extended to roads adjoining these model corridors to improve road safety and reduce traffic fatalities.
According to the CTO, increased helmet use has helped reduce severe head injury cases by 40%.
