Traffic flow on Lahore’s Canal Road has shown clear improvement after authorities imposed a ban on the entry of Qingqi and loader rickshaws, according to traffic police.
Officials said citizens have also welcomed the move and expressed satisfaction over smoother movement on one of the city’s busiest roads.
A traffic police spokesperson said the crackdown led to action against 5,970 Qingqi rickshaws and 13,888 loader rickshaws during the campaign.
Authorities said the operation was launched to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents on the route.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore said loader rickshaws often transport steel bars, iron pipes and other heavy material, which can pose a serious danger to other vehicles and motorcyclists using the road.
He said such vehicles can lead to deadly consequences in the event of an accident, adding that strict enforcement of traffic rules will continue.
