The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has increased water and sewerage charges by 7.05% for residential and bulk consumers, adding to the financial burden on residents amid complaints about inadequate water supply across the city. The Sindh government notified the increase in the official Gazette on August 10, 2026, after the KWSC Board of Directors approved revised retail and bulk tariffs. The corporation said it based the revision on the average Consumer Price Index.

The latest increase marks the second major tariff hike in two years. In September 2024, the KWSC raised monthly charges by around 23%. At the time, the corporation set sewerage charges at 9% of water charges.

Under the revised tariff, the KWSC will calculate monthly water and sewerage charges for residential properties according to plot size. The corporation has also set fixed monthly rates for different categories of commercial establishments and shops.

The increase has drawn criticism from residents who rely on private water tankers because the KWSC does not provide adequate piped water in many areas. KWSC officials said the higher tariffs would strengthen the corporation’s revenue base and provide sustainable funding for water supply, sewerage operations, maintenance and rehabilitation.
