Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and the Local Government Department to accelerate work on two major flyover projects planned for Power House Chowrangi and 4-K Chowrangi in Karachi as part of wider efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
The projects were reviewed during a high level meeting chaired by the chief minister at CM House to assess ongoing infrastructure and road development schemes across Karachi.
According to the briefing, the proposed flyover at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi will cost Rs. 2.5 billion and include a 636 metre dual track elevated structure.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that the flyover is designed to separate through traffic heading toward 4-K Chowrangi from turning traffic moving toward Saba Cinema and Khwaja Ajmer Nagri.
He said nearly 80 percent of through traffic would use the elevated flyover, while local traffic would continue using service roads at ground level. The meeting also reviewed the proposed Rs. 2.377 billion flyover project at 4-K Chowrangi aimed at improving uninterrupted traffic flow toward Surjani Town.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab told the meeting that around 70 percent of traffic passing through the intersection currently moves toward Surjani Town, causing severe bottlenecks and long traffic delays. Murad Ali Shah directed the departments concerned to finalize planning and ensure both flyover projects are designed according to future traffic requirements.
