Sindh Senior Minister and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced plans to introduce more electric vehicles (EVs) and double decker buses in Karachi as the provincial government moves to expand public transport services.
The announcement came during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Sharjeel Memon. Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Managing Director Saleemullah Odho, and other officials attended the session.
The meeting reviewed new routes for the People’s Bus Service, distribution of Pink EV Scooties, the EV taxi service, and ongoing and proposed mass transit projects across Sindh.
Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh government would purchase an additional 1,000 Pink EV Scooties for women. He added that new EV buses and double decker buses would also be brought to Karachi to improve urban transport facilities.
The minister said the government had decided to launch intercity People’s Bus Service routes to further expand the province’s mass transit network. Under the plan, new routes between Khairpur and Rohri, and Khairpur and Ranipur, will begin operations next week.
He added that intercity bus services would soon be launched in Larkana, Dadu, Sehwan, Hyderabad, Sanghar, and other districts of Sindh.
