Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday opened a new dual carriageway connecting Mehrunnisa Hospital with Nasir Jump and Creek Road in Korangi, saying the project will improve travel between Korangi and Malir while easing traffic congestion.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) completed the Rs265.259 million project with a 1,700-metre-long and 9.3-metre-wide road built to modern engineering standards.
Mayor Wahab said the new road will shorten travel time, improve road safety and provide residents with a faster and more convenient route. He added that the project will also support the area’s future growth by strengthening its transport infrastructure.
KMC installed a 36-inch RCC stormwater drain to carry rainwater and laid an 18-inch RCC sewerage pipeline to improve the sewerage network and reduce drainage problems during the monsoon season.
The civic body also built 1.5-metre-wide footpaths on both sides of the road and installed 53 streetlights to improve visibility and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians at night.
Mayor Wahab said the dual carriageway will create a stronger road link between Korangi and Malir while offering an alternative route through the Mehrunnisa Hospital and 16,000 Road area. He added that the road will improve access to SIUT Hospital, nearby industrial areas and surrounding neighbourhoods.
