Traffic police have started issuing e-challans for lane violations on Shahrah-e-Faisal from today, as part of efforts to improve traffic discipline on one of Karachi’s busiest roads.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, the system is currently being enforced only on Shahrah-e-Faisal in the initial phase. However, authorities plan to expand it to other major roads in the city in the future.
The spokesperson urged citizens to drive within their designated lanes and asked motorcyclists, buses, and car drivers to follow lane discipline.
Traffic police officials said an awareness campaign had already been carried out ahead of the enforcement, adding that commuters also need to show greater responsibility on the road.
Authorities said such measures would not only help improve traffic flow but also contribute to preventing accidents.
Last month, Karachi Traffic Police announced a new lane management plan for Shahrah-e-Faisal under which bikes, rickshaws, buses, and other light transport vehicles would be restricted to designated lanes.
Officials had said the road was chosen for the first phase because camera-based enforcement infrastructure was already available there.
Under that plan, violators were to face e-ticketing fines, with penalties set at Rs. 2,500 for bikes and rickshaws and Rs. 7,500 for buses.
