Karachi Kings pacer Hasan Ali has backed concerns raised by Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha over the early promotion of young players to the national team, stressing that emerging cricketers should only be given opportunities once they are fully developed.
Speaking at a post-match press conference after Karachi Kings’ 11-run loss to Multan Sultans in the 28th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) at National Bank Stadium, Hasan said Pakistan has a tendency to fast-track young talent prematurely.
“We rush young players like unripe fruit. They should be given opportunities only when they are fully mature,” Hasan said.
The experienced pacer also drew a comparison with national wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, adding that, like him, his focus remains entirely on cricket.
“Like Rizwan bhai, I know nothing beyond cricket. It is my passion, and I want to make my name through performances,” he said.
Hasan addressed growing speculation about retirement that often follows a dip in performance, rejecting such discussions and reaffirming his commitment to making a comeback through strong performances. He highlighted his record in the PSL, where he is the leading wicket-taker.
“Cricket is my passion. After a few poor performances, questions about retirement begin to arise, but I will make a comeback by delivering strong performances. We have to prove and establish ourselves every day, and I strive to learn daily,” he said.
“Whenever I get an opportunity, I try to perform, which is why I hold the record for the most wickets in the PSL with 137. I always aim to perform and earn my place back in the team whenever given the chance,” he added.
The right-arm pacer also commented on Karachi Kings’ recent dip in form during the ongoing PSL season, particularly since the tournament’s second leg began. He acknowledged shortcomings across all three departments of the game.
Hasan dismissed suggestions that the team’s struggles were due to the absence of captain David Warner in the previous three matches, emphasizing that the team is not dependent on any single player.
“We are not dependent on David Warner alone. This is Karachi Kings’ team, not Warner’s team. Every player in our side is a match-winner,” he said.
